Tax and discount information used for a purchase is recorded with the order.

Creating Tax Rates

Create a tax rate and complete the following fields:

Field

Purpose

Title

A descriptive name identifying the rate.

Rate

The percentage applied, such as 22 for 22%.

Country

The country associated with the rate.

State / Province

An optional geographical restriction within the selected country.

Status

Published or Unpublished.

Additional fields describe the tax treatment used for FatturaPA XML documents.

Use descriptive titles to distinguish rates intended for different purposes.

Product & Shipping Rates
Products can reference a tax rate for their prices.

Shipping methods have a separate tax-rate selection where applicable. The shipping rate does not have to be the same as the product rate.

Published Rates
Publish a rate when it is ready to be selected and used by the applicable configuration.

Changing a rate does not recalculate orders that have already been created.

Price Configuration & Checkout Calculations

Prices Including Tax
When prices include tax, MirandaPlace treats the configured amount as a gross price and calculates the tax portion within it.

For example, a tax-inclusive price of €122 at 22% consists of:

  • €100 before tax;
  • €22 tax.

Prices Excluding Tax
When prices exclude tax, MirandaPlace calculates the tax in addition to the configured amount.

For example, a price of €100 before tax at 22% produces a total of €122.

The store’s price configuration determines which interpretation applies.

Destination-Based Calculations
The checkout tax calculation uses the billing country and state/province together with the configured rates.

For a billing address in the store’s country, the product’s recorded rate normally remains applicable unless a matching state/province rule is selected.

For a billing address outside the store’s country, MirandaPlace looks for a published destination rate.

If no matching foreign destination rate is found, the current calculation applies a zero rate. This is a configuration fallback, not an automatic determination that the transaction is tax-exempt.

Configure and check the destinations you intend to serve.

Tax-Inclusive Price Adjustments
When a destination changes the applicable rate, MirandaPlace preserves the underlying net price and recalculates the gross amount.

For example, a gross price of €122 containing 22% tax has a net value of €100. Applying a destination rate of 20% produces a gross price of €120.

Scope of the Tax Rules
The calculation follows the configured rates and geographical rules.

It does not automatically determine business-customer exemptions, validate VAT numbers, or select a special tax regime for digital products.

Zero Rates & FatturaPA Information

Tax-rate configuration includes:

  • Nature — the FatturaPA tax-treatment code.
  • Reference — the associated explanatory reference.

Positive Rates
For a rate greater than zero, these fields must remain empty.

Zero Rates
For a zero rate, the current configuration requires both a Nature code and a Reference.

Choose the values appropriate to the tax treatment you intend to record. MirandaPlace does not choose the correct classification on your behalf.

Order & Invoice Records
The applicable rate and tax-treatment information are recorded with the order.

Invoice generation uses the recorded transaction information rather than replacing it with later changes to the tax-rate configuration.

A missing foreign destination rate does not automatically supply the Nature and Reference required for a zero-rate XML entry. Incomplete tax information can prevent XML generation.

See Invoices & Credit Notes for document configuration and availability.

Creating Coupons

Create a coupon and enter a descriptive title and the code customers will use.

Each coupon provides:

  • title and code;
  • discount type and value;
  • minimum product subtotal;
  • start and end dates;
  • total usage limit;
  • per-user usage limit;
  • guest eligibility;
  • publication status;
  • usage counter;
  • notes.

Coupon Code
Codes are normalized when saved.

If the requested code already exists, MirandaPlace assigns a unique alternative and displays a notice.

Check the final saved code before distributing it to customers.

Discount Types

Type

Behaviour

Percentage

Reduces the eligible product subtotal by the configured percentage.

Fixed amount

Applies a fixed reduction in the store currency.

Coupons apply to the product subtotal. They are not a dedicated free-shipping mechanism.

Minimum Subtotal
Use Minimum subtotal to require a minimum product amount before the coupon can be used.

The check uses the product subtotal before coupon and customer-group discounts.

A value of 0 imposes no minimum-subtotal requirement.

Validity Period
Use the start and end fields to define when the coupon is available.

An empty start date imposes no starting-date restriction. An empty end date imposes no expiry-date restriction.

The coupon must also be published.

Usage Limits & Guest Customers

Total Usage Limit
This limits the total number of recorded uses across customers.

A value of 0 means no total usage limit.

Per-User Usage Limit
This limits repeated use by the same customer identity.

For registered customers, usage is associated with the user account.

For guest orders, the final order-creation check uses the supplied email address.

A value of 0 means no per-user usage limit.

Allow Guests
Enable Allow guests if the coupon should be available during guest checkout.

When disabled, the customer must log in before using the coupon.

Allowing guest coupon use does not override the store’s guest-checkout setting or account requirements imposed by the purchased products.

When Usage Is Recorded
Coupon usage is recorded when the order is created, rather than waiting for payment confirmation.

The Times used field is a read-only usage counter.

Final Validation
MirandaPlace checks coupon eligibility again during checkout and order creation.

A coupon previously entered in the cart may no longer be accepted if it has expired, been unpublished, reached its usage limit, or no longer meets the order conditions.

Combining Discounts & Checking Results

Coupon & Customer-Group Discounts

A coupon can be combined with an eligible customer-group discount.

Both are calculated separately against the same original product subtotal, before these two discounts.

For example, on a subtotal of €100:

  • a 10% customer-group discount reduces the amount by €10;
  • a 5% coupon reduces it by another €5.

The combined reduction is €15.

The coupon is not calculated on the amount remaining after the customer-group discount.

The purchase summary identifies the two reductions separately.

Discounts & Taxes
Discounts are distributed across the product lines and their applicable tax rates.

For tax-inclusive prices, the reduction affects both the net amount and the tax contained within the price.

For tax-exclusive prices, tax is calculated on the discounted taxable amount.

The resulting order and invoice totals reflect the discounted transaction.

Stopping a Promotion
Unpublish a coupon to prevent further use while retaining its configuration.

Existing orders keep their recorded coupon and discount information.

Checking the Configuration
Before distributing a coupon, verify:

  • a qualifying product subtotal;
  • an amount below the minimum;
  • the configured validity period;
  • registered and guest eligibility;
  • applicable usage limits;
  • combination with a customer-group discount;
  • the resulting discount and tax totals.

For tax configuration, also check representative billing destinations and products using different rates.
