MirandaPlace Docs
Products – Prices, Options & Stock
MirandaPlace separates product pricing, purchasable options, availability, and stock management.
These settings work together, but serve different purposes:
- Price determines the product or variant amount.
- Options and variants define the combinations customers can select.
- Availability determines whether purchasing is currently allowed.
- Quantity rules control how many units can be purchased.
- Stock management checks the available quantities of physical goods.
To configure these settings, open:
Components → MirandaPlace → Catalog → Products
Select a product and complete the relevant sections of its editor.
Category Mode and Product Type
Commercial information remains available in Ecommerce and Catalog categories, but online purchasing is enabled only in Ecommerce.
In Content (CCK) categories, commercial functions are inactive.
Stock management applies to Physical products. Digital Download, Service, and Access products do not use physical stock.
Regular Price
Enter the product’s normal selling price in
Regular price.
For a product without variants, this is the starting price before applicable promotions and checkout discounts.
For products with variants, review the price of each purchasable combination.
Tax-Inclusive and Tax-Exclusive Prices
The meaning of the entered price follows the price configuration in Store Config:
Store setting | Meaning of the entered price |
|---|---|
Prices include tax | The amount already includes the applicable tax. |
Prices exclude tax | The amount is entered before tax. |
For example, with a 20% tax rate:
- entering 120 with tax-inclusive prices represents 100 before tax + 20 tax;
- entering 100 with tax-exclusive prices results in 120 including tax.
Check the store setting before entering or importing product prices.
Product Tax Rate
Review the product’s tax-rate selection and the available rates configured in MirandaPlace.
The tax context shown before checkout uses the store’s configuration. At checkout, the customer’s billing location can affect the applicable tax calculation.
Displayed Price and Final Total
The product price is not necessarily the final order total.
Checkout can include:
- the selected variant price;
- applicable product promotions;
- customer-group discounts;
- coupons;
- taxes;
- shipping charges.
Shipping is calculated separately from the product subtotal.
Existing Orders
Saved orders retain their recorded prices and tax amounts. Editing the current product price does not recalculate existing orders.
For products without variants, a product promotion can be configured through a percentage discount or a manually entered sale price.
Percentage Discount
Enter a positive Discount % to calculate a reduction from the regular price.
For example:
- Regular price: 100
- Discount: 15%
- Promotional price: 85
A positive percentage takes precedence over a manually entered sale price.
Manual Sale Price
Use Sale price when you want to specify the promotional amount directly.
Leave the percentage field empty when using a manual sale price. Entering a percentage of 0 clears the manual sale price when the product is saved.
Avoid completing both fields as competing promotion rules.
Promotion Dates
Use the start and end dates to control when the promotion applies.
Configuration | Behaviour |
|---|---|
No dates | The valid promotion applies without a scheduled start or end. |
Start date only | The promotion begins on that date and has no scheduled end. |
End date only | The promotion applies until the configured end. |
Both dates | The promotion applies within the configured period. |
Save the product and check its frontend price after configuring the promotion.
Promotions and Variants
Products with variants use the price of the selected combination.
When variants exist, MirandaPlace clears the product-level sale price, discount percentage, and promotion dates. These general promotion fields do not act as a fallback for variant pricing.
The current variant editor allows an individual regular price for each combination. It does not provide separate percentage discounts or promotion dates for individual variants.
Coupons and Customer-Group Discounts
Coupons and customer-group discounts are configured separately from the product promotion.
They can both apply to the same purchase when their conditions are satisfied. Each is calculated from the product subtotal before these two checkout discounts, and their amounts are then combined.
For example, a 10% customer-group discount and a 5% coupon on an eligible subtotal of 100 produce reductions of 10 and 5.
Their applicable conditions are checked again during checkout.
Attributes describe selectable product characteristics, such as size or colour.
Variants represent specific combinations that can have their own price, SKU, stock, and publication status.
The current product editor provides variants for Physical products.
Preparing Options
Create the required attributes and their values in the corresponding catalog management pages.
In the product editor, select the attributes and values relevant to that product.
For example:
- Size: Small, Medium, Large
- Colour: Black, White
Using both attributes for variants produces six possible combinations.
Generating Variants
Use Regenerate variants to generate combinations from the selected values.
Generation happens when you run the action; selecting attribute values does not automatically create the complete variant set.
Review the generated combinations before saving.
Variant Settings
Each variant can have its own:
- price;
- SKU;
- stock quantity;
- published or active status.
Review every combination intended for sale. Do not assume that all generated combinations have the correct commercial values.
Variant stock is separate from the general product stock. Do not treat the general quantity as a shared fallback for all combinations.
The current editor does not assign a separate image gallery to each variant.
Changing Attributes After Creating Variants
Changing the selected attributes or their values can invalidate the existing combinations.
After the relevant confirmation, the existing variants are removed. Their individual prices, stock values, and SKUs are not automatically preserved for matching combinations.
Regenerate the variants and review their settings again.
For an established product, record the existing variant values before changing its combination structure.
Customer Selection
On an Ecommerce product page, customers select an available combination before purchasing.
In Catalog mode, variant information can remain visible, but purchasing controls are unavailable.
Publication and Availability
Publication status and commercial availability are separate.
A product can remain published and visible while purchasing is disabled.
Use publication status to control whether the item is published. Use availability settings to describe and control its commercial status.
Availability Options
Option | Purchasing behaviour |
|---|---|
Available | Purchasing is allowed when all other requirements are satisfied. |
Unavailable | Purchasing is blocked. |
On request | Direct purchasing is blocked. |
Preorder | Purchasing can be allowed, subject to the other purchase rules. |
For Preorder products, the available-from date communicates the expected availability. It does not automatically postpone the purchase until that date.
Preorder does not override active stock restrictions.
Discontinued Products
Marking a product as Discontinued prevents purchasing.
The product can remain published for reference, allowing visitors to view its information.
Minimum Quantity
Use Minimum quantity to set the smallest permitted purchase quantity.
Maximum Quantity
Use Maximum quantity to limit the quantity that can be purchased.
An empty or zero maximum does not impose an additional product maximum. Other restrictions, including available stock, can still apply.
Quantity Step
Use Quantity step to define permitted increments.
For example, to sell in groups of six, configure a minimum of 6 and a step of 6, then check the quantity selector and cart behaviour.
Access Products
Access products use a purchase quantity of one. Their collection coverage and licensing conditions are configured separately from purchase quantities.
Stock management applies to Physical products and their variants.
It requires the relevant stock controls to be enabled in both the store and product configuration.
Available Stock
Enter the available quantity for the product or its purchasable variants.
When stock tracking is active:
- zero stock prevents purchasing;
- a requested quantity cannot exceed the available stock;
- concurrent purchases are checked to prevent overselling.
The current system does not provide a backorder option that allows purchases beyond tracked stock.
Products with Variants
For products sold through variants, maintain stock for each combination.
For example, a size-and-colour combination can be unavailable while another combination remains purchasable.
When Stock Is Reduced
Tracked stock is reduced when the order is created, before the payment outcome is known.
A pending payment can therefore already be associated with a stock reduction.
Returns, Refunds and Restocking
Refunds and stock movements are separate operations.
In the withdrawal and return workflow, restocking depends on the returned quantities and their recorded condition. Only quantities eligible for resale should be returned to available stock.
Do not assume that issuing a refund automatically makes the returned goods available for sale.
Stock Tracking Disabled
When stock management is disabled, the numeric stock quantity does not provide the normal tracked-stock purchase restriction.
Other rules still apply, including publication, category mode, availability, discontinued status, and purchase quantities.
Check Before Publishing
Before making a product available for purchase:
- Confirm the store’s tax-inclusive or tax-exclusive price setting.
- Check the product price and any promotion.
- For variants, review each combination’s price, SKU, status, and stock.
- Confirm availability, quantity limits, and stock settings.
- Open the frontend product page and check the options and displayed price.
- Verify the selected combination and quantity in the cart.
