Products – Creating & Editing
The Products page is the central workspace for managing products and structured content in MirandaPlace.
From here, you can create items, edit existing records, organize them into categories, manage publication status, and access their detailed settings.
To open product management, go to:
Components → MirandaPlace → Catalog → Products
Category Mode and Product Type
Before creating an item, distinguish between two settings:
- Category mode determines whether the item operates as an ecommerce product, a catalog entry, or structured content.
- Product type determines what you sell and which product-specific settings apply.
Categories can use Ecommerce, Catalog, or Content (CCK) mode. Commercial product types are Physical, Digital Download, Service, and Access.
The editor adapts to the selected category and product type. You do not need to complete every section for every item.
Create Your First Product
- Create a category, or identify an existing category with the appropriate operating mode.
- Open Products and select New.
- Enter the product Title and select its Category.
- For an Ecommerce or Catalog category, choose the appropriate Product type.
- Add descriptions and images.
- Complete the settings required for that type, such as price, availability, shipping information, downloadable files, or Access collections.
- Keep the item Unpublished while preparing it, then save your work.
- When ready, set its status to Published and save again.
- Open the relevant frontend page to check its appearance and available actions.
Publishing an item does not automatically make it purchasable. Online purchasing also requires an Ecommerce category, suitable product availability, and a configured checkout.
For structured content, select a Content (CCK) category and complete the editorial fields. Commercial settings are inactive in this mode.
The Products list provides an overview of your items, including their category, publication status, language, and relevant product information.
A category-mode indicator helps distinguish Ecommerce products, Catalog entries, and CCK content.
Search and Filters
Use the search field to find items by title or alias.
To locate a specific record by its internal ID, enter:
id:123
Use Advanced Filters to narrow the list by:
- publication status;
- category;
- language.
Sorting and the items-per-page selector control how results are presented. If an expected item is missing, check the active filters and selected page.
Opening an Item
Select an item’s title to open its editor, or select its checkbox and use Edit.
List Actions
Depending on your permissions and the current selection, the toolbar provides actions for:
- creating an item;
- editing an item;
- duplicating selected items;
- publishing or unpublishing;
- archiving;
- moving items to the trash;
- applying batch changes;
- permanently deleting trashed items.
Batch operations allow supported changes, such as category, publication status, and language, to be applied to several selected items.
Changing the category through a batch operation can also change the items’ effective operating mode.
The editor groups related settings into sections and provides a summary of the item’s current configuration.
Title and Alias
The Title identifies the item in administration and on the frontend.
The Alias is used when constructing its URL. Review it when preparing the item for publication, especially if you have changed the title.
Changing the title does not necessarily require changing an established alias.
Category
Each item is assigned to a category.
The category determines:
- its effective operating mode;
- applicable product detail layout and gallery settings;
- category-level card orientation and chip selections.
When selecting a different category, review the editor sections and the resulting frontend presentation.
Product Type
For Ecommerce and Catalog items, select:
- Physical;
- Digital Download;
- Service;
- Access.
The editor displays the relevant settings for the selected type.
See Products – Types for a comparison and configuration guidance.
Manufacturer and Product Identifiers
Where applicable, associate the product with a manufacturer and complete identifiers such as SKU, GTIN, and MPN.
Use these fields according to the information available for your product.
Featured Items
The Featured setting marks an item for use in listings or modules configured to display featured products.
It does not replace publication status or automatically add the item to every frontend page.
Descriptions
Use the description fields to introduce the item and provide its detailed information.
Keep the short description suitable for a quick overview, and use the full description for explanations, specifications, or other supporting content.
Which descriptions appear, and where they appear, depends on the selected card and detail layouts.
Use the Images section to add and organize the product’s visual content.
You can:
- add multiple images;
- arrange their order;
- choose the main or cover image;
- remove images that are no longer needed.
The main image represents the product in supported listings and cards. Additional images are available to its product gallery.
The gallery’s presentation follows the applicable category and global image settings.
Choosing Images
Use clear images with consistent proportions across related products. Check both the listing card and the detail page, as they may display images at different sizes or with different cropping.
Upload limits depend on the server configuration and the limits shown in the editor.
Product Images and Category Images
Product images belong to the individual item.
They are separate from the category’s main image. Replacing a category image does not replace the images of products assigned to it.
Videos
Use the available video controls to add supported video content.
Whether videos appear on the frontend depends on the item’s presentation layout.
Downloadable Files
Files sold or delivered to customers belong in the dedicated digital product settings, rather than the product image gallery.
See Products – Digital Downloads & Access for file and download configuration.
The editor contains additional sections according to the item’s category mode and product type.
Prices, Options and Stock
Commercial settings can include prices, discounts, availability, purchase quantities, attributes, variants, and stock.
Complete only the settings relevant to the product you are preparing.
Publication status and availability serve different purposes: a published product can remain visible while being unavailable for purchase.
See Products – Prices, Options & Stock for detailed instructions.
Features and Fields
Use the available features and fields to describe the item in a structured way.
MirandaPlace distinguishes between predefined specific fields and additional fields created for your project. Field groups help organize related information.
See Products – Fields & Structured Content for their configuration and use with CCK categories.
Digital Downloads and Access
Digital Download and Access products have dedicated configuration sections.
These can include files, collections, download conditions, and licensing settings, according to the selected type.
See Products – Digital Downloads & Access before publishing these products.
Withdrawal Policy
Where applicable, review the product’s Withdrawal policy setting as part of its commercial configuration.
This setting describes how the product is handled in the withdrawal workflow. It is separate from publication status and product availability.
Frontend Layout
The product editor manages the item’s data. Its frontend presentation is controlled through the applicable layouts and category settings.
Use the Product Layout Builder to design the detail page and the card configuration to control listing cards.
A value saved in the editor appears on the frontend only when the relevant presentation includes it.
Publication and Language
Use publication status to control whether an item is published, unpublished, archived, or trashed.
Frontend visibility also depends on the category, language, access rules, and the listing or module used to display it.
For multilingual websites, check the item’s language and available association settings.
SEO Information
Complete the available metadata and robots settings where needed.
Use a description that accurately represents the item. SEO fields do not replace the visible product descriptions.
Saving Changes
Save the form after completing your changes. Use Save & Close when you want to save and return to the list.
If validation reports an error, complete or correct the indicated fields and save again.
After changing important product settings, check the frontend presentation and, for Ecommerce products, the available purchase options.
Changing Category or Type
Changing the category can change both the operating mode and presentation settings.
For example, moving a product to a CCK category hides its commercial functions while preserving the stored commercial data.
Changing the product type is a separate operation. Review the settings required by the new type before publishing or making the product available for purchase.
Duplicating an Item
Use Duplicate to create a new item based on an existing one.
The duplicate is created as Unpublished, allowing you to review it before publication.
Check its title, alias, identifiers, category, images, and commercial settings. Do not assume the copied values are already suitable for the new product.
Removing an Item
Use Unpublish when you want to remove an item from normal frontend publication while keeping it available for editing.
Use Trash when preparing it for removal. Permanent deletion is available from the trashed-items view and requires the appropriate permission.
Permanent deletion removes the product record and its associated product data. Use it only when the item is no longer needed.
