Appearance – Shop Layout
Shop Layout controls the general presentation settings used by MirandaPlace’s frontend pages.
From here, you can configure Shop sections, listing preferences, the default product detail layout, and optional visual styles.
To open it, go to:
Components → MirandaPlace → Appearance → Shop Layout
Understanding the Appearance Tools
Tool | Purpose |
|---|---|
Shop Layout | Configures general display settings and selects the default product detail layout. |
Product Cards | Designs the vertical and horizontal cards used in listings. |
Product Layout Builder | Creates custom layouts for individual product and content pages. |
Images & Galleries | Configures product galleries, thumbnails, and image processing. |
Shop Layout does not create Joomla menu items or replace the site template. Create the appropriate MirandaPlace menu items to make its frontend pages accessible.
Suggested Setup Order
- Choose which Shop sections to display.
- Configure listing preferences and card orientation.
- Select the default product detail layout.
- Enable only the custom styles you need.
- Save and review the relevant frontend pages.
The Shop page can display category navigation, featured products, and recently added products alongside its main listing.
Each section has its own enable setting and display limit.
Categories
Enable the Categories section to display category entries on the Shop page.
Configure:
- the maximum number of categories;
- the category grid columns.
The available column settings are 2, 3, and 4. The frontend adapts the presentation to the available screen width.
Categories are selected according to publication and language, then ordered by their configured ordering and title.
The maximum is a display limit, not a requirement: the section can contain fewer entries when fewer categories qualify.
Featured Products
Enable Featured Products to highlight items marked Featured in their product editor.
Set the maximum number of items to display.
Marking a product Featured makes it eligible for this section; the section must also be enabled, and the product must satisfy its publication and language requirements.
New Products
Enable New Products to display recently created items.
Configure:
- the maximum number of items;
- the number of days during which an item qualifies as new.
This selection uses the item’s creation date, rather than its latest modification date.
Products already selected for the Featured section are excluded from the New Products selection to avoid repeating them in both sections.
Empty Sections
A section requires both an enabled setting and eligible content. Enabling it does not create placeholder products or categories.
Use a positive display limit for a section you want to show.
Products per Page
Set the default number of products displayed per page in listings that use this setting.
This controls pagination, rather than the total number of products available in the catalog.
The limits for Featured and New Products are configured separately.
Filters
The filter setting controls the filter interface on the Shop page.
Filters help visitors narrow the main listing. Their available choices depend on the catalog information and the relevant frontend view.
Disabling the filter interface does not unpublish products or change their category assignments.
Cards in Global Listings
Choose how cards should be oriented in global listings:
Option | Behaviour |
|---|---|
Vertical | Uses the vertical card design. |
Horizontal | Uses the horizontal card design. |
From category | Uses each item’s category card orientation. |
The category’s own listing uses its Listing card setting.
This allows a global listing to maintain a uniform orientation or respect the presentation chosen for individual categories.
Orientation and Card Design
Shop Layout selects the orientation. The Product Cards tool defines the elements and arrangement within each orientation.
For example, selecting Horizontal does not itself determine which descriptions, badges, or technical chips are visible. Those choices belong to the card design.
See Appearance – Product Cards for detailed configuration.
Default Product Layout
Select the default layout for individual product and content detail pages under
Product Page.
Choose an available published layout created with the Product Layout Builder, or use the native Default presentation.
This setting belongs to Shop Layout, not Store Config.
Category Overrides
A category can specify a different product detail layout.
MirandaPlace resolves the selection in this order:
- The item’s category layout.
- A layout specified by a parent category or subsequent ancestor.
- The global default selected in Shop Layout.
The native default presentation is used when no applicable custom layout is available.
This lets you use one general design while assigning different layouts to particular category branches.
Operating Modes
The category’s effective operating mode determines which elements can appear within the selected layout.
- Ecommerce permits product information and purchasing controls.
- Catalog permits product information while hiding purchasing controls.
- Content (CCK) hides commercial and shipping-related elements.
Selecting a layout does not change the category mode or enable purchasing in a Catalog or CCK category.
Related Products
Use the Related Products setting to enable related-item presentation where supported by the detail layout.
Choose the maximum number of related products: 3, 4, 6, or 8.
Related products are selected from the current item’s category, excluding the current item itself. The selection prioritizes featured items, followed by ordering and creation date.
This is a category-based selection, rather than a manually maintained list of product relationships.
A custom detail layout must include the relevant related-products element for the section to appear.
Shop Layout provides optional styling for supported MirandaPlace frontend elements.
Enable Custom styles to apply these settings, then enable the individual style groups you want to customize.
The main switch and the individual group switches work together.
Titles
Configure supported title styling, including:
- normal and hover colours;
- font size;
- font weight.
Prices
Configure the colour, size, and weight of supported price elements.
These settings change appearance, not price calculations, discounts, or tax rules.
Card Surfaces
Configure supported card presentation, including:
- background and text colours;
- border colour and width;
- corner radius;
- shadow.
The card’s content and internal arrangement remain the responsibility of
Product Cards.
Tabs
Configure supported detail-page tabs, including:
- normal, hover, and active colours;
- spacing;
- corner radii;
- bottom spacing.
These settings affect tab presentation where tabs are used. They do not automatically turn another layout structure into tabs.
Add to Cart
Configure the normal and hover colours of supported Add to Cart buttons.
Button styling does not override product availability or category-mode restrictions.
Badges
Configure the colours of supported discount and status badges.
The conditions that make a badge appear remain separate from its visual settings.
Working with the Site Template
The Joomla template continues to control the surrounding page and can contribute typography, colours, spacing, and overrides.
Use Shop Layout’s custom styles where you need component-specific adjustments, then check the result in the actual frontend template.
Disabling a style group removes that group’s custom styling contribution. It does not hide the corresponding content.
Cart Modal Position
The modal-position setting controls the supported cart confirmation modal.
Available positions are:
- Centre;
- Right;
- Top centre.
This setting affects presentation when the modal is used. It does not change the checkout process or the contents of the cart.
Settings Have Different Scopes
Not every Shop Layout setting applies to every MirandaPlace page or module.
For example:
- Categories, Featured, and New Products configure sections of the Shop page.
- Global card orientation applies to listings that use that setting.
- The default product layout applies to item detail pages, subject to category overrides.
- Dedicated modules can have their own display settings.
Check the configuration of the page or module you are viewing before assuming a global setting should control it.
Saving and Checking Changes
Save the Shop Layout form, then review the affected frontend pages.
Check:
- the Shop page and its enabled sections;
- a category listing;
- a global product listing;
- a product using the global detail layout;
- a product using a category-specific layout;
- the presentation on a narrow screen.
For a mixed-mode website, also check examples from Ecommerce, Catalog, and CCK categories.
If a change is not visible, confirm the applicable category or module settings and refresh any relevant browser or site cache.
