Languages & Permissions
MirandaPlace uses Joomla’s language and permission systems alongside its own content-language settings and functional administration permissions.
These settings control different aspects of the website:
- the language of interface labels;
- the language assigned to products and categories;
- access to administration sections and operations;
- access to customer records and purchased resources.
MirandaPlace includes English and Italian interface translations.
Frontend labels follow the active site language. Administration labels follow the administrator’s language configuration.
The selected interface language does not translate product descriptions, category names, or other merchant-entered content.
Language Overrides
Use Joomla’s language overrides to customize translated interface labels.
Select the appropriate language and client: Site or Administrator.
Overrides let you adjust wording without editing the component’s distributed language files.
A frontend override does not automatically change the corresponding administration label.
Additional Languages
Additional Joomla languages do not automatically provide MirandaPlace translations.
To present the component fully in another language, provide the corresponding MirandaPlace translations as well as the website’s translated content.
Products and categories provide a Language setting.
Choose a specific content language or All.
Selection | Intended use |
|---|---|
A specific language | Content intended for that language’s frontend listings. |
All | Shared content available across the supported language contexts. |
MirandaPlace’s frontend listings select content matching the active language together with content assigned to All.
Creating Translated Content
Enter the translated titles, descriptions, and other values in the appropriate records.
Assigning a language identifies the content’s language; it does not generate a translation.
Where separate records represent different language versions, maintain their product information consistently.
Categories & Products
Check the language assignment of both the product and its category.
A product assigned to one language should be placed within a category structure that visitors can reach in that language.
Menus & Modules
Configure the Joomla content languages, language navigation, menu items, and module assignments required by the website.
Do not assume that selecting another language will automatically open a corresponding translated MirandaPlace item.
Verify the resulting navigation and destinations for each language.
Open MirandaPlace’s Options → Permissions to configure permissions for the relevant Joomla user groups.
Permissions belong to Joomla user groups rather than MirandaPlace Customer Groups.
General Permissions
The component exposes Joomla permissions including:
- access to the administration interface;
- creation;
- editing;
- editing state;
- deletion;
- configuration of permissions.
These govern operations where the corresponding action is supported.
Granting a permission does not introduce an operation that a page does not provide. For example, a deletion permission does not make ordinary order deletion available.
Functional Access
MirandaPlace also separates access to sensitive administration areas.
Permission | Area covered |
|---|---|
Access orders and invoices | Orders, invoices, and coupons. |
Access customers and support | Customers, customer groups, reviews, and support tickets. |
Access payment methods | Payment-method configuration and provider credentials. |
Access shipping methods | Shipping methods, pickup points, and carrier configuration. |
Access store configuration | Store and related presentation, tax, currency, country, and order-status configuration. |
Manage returns | Withdrawal and return cases and their operational handling. |
Execute refunds | The dedicated refund operations within the return workflow. |
Restore returned stock | Eligible stock-restoration operations within the return workflow. |
Functional access and general operation permissions work together.
Access to a section does not automatically grant every action inside it.
Use Joomla user groups to reflect the responsibilities of the people managing the store.
For example:
- customer-support staff may need customers and tickets;
- order-processing staff may need orders and invoices;
- returns staff may need case handling;
- selected administrators may handle refunds or stock restoration;
- configuration administrators may manage payment, shipping, and store settings.
These are examples of responsibilities to configure, not predefined MirandaPlace staff roles.
Returns, Refunds & Stock
Within the return workflow, case handling, refund execution, and stock restoration have separate permissions.
This allows a staff member to review or inspect a return without automatically being authorized to perform every subsequent operation.
Provider Configuration
Payment and shipping configuration can expose credentials used by external services.
Assign these areas to staff who are responsible for configuring those integrations.
Testing Staff Access
Verify permissions using an account in the intended staff group.
A Super User account is not suitable for confirming what a restricted staff member can access.
Check both section access and the specific actions the staff member needs to perform.
Customer Groups
MirandaPlace Customer Groups define commercial conditions such as discounts and permitted checkout methods.
They do not grant administration permissions.
See Customers & Customer Groups for their configuration.
Customer Records
The Customer Area restricts orders, documents, tickets, and protected downloads to the authorized customer.
Guest-order access uses its separate protected access flow.
Changing a language or a menu’s visibility does not transfer ownership of those records.
Purchased Access
Access products use their purchased entitlement and licence conditions.
A Joomla viewing access level or a customer-group assignment does not by itself create a purchased Access entitlement.
See Products → Digital Downloads & Access for those rules.
Menu Visibility & Resource Access
Joomla menu and module access settings control their presentation to the selected audience.
Hiding a menu item is not a substitute for the authorization checks protecting an order, document, or download.
Final Check
Verify the website with representative visitor, customer, and staff accounts:
- switch between the configured frontend languages;
- check product and category visibility;
- review translated interface labels and merchant-entered content;
- verify language-specific menus and modules;
- confirm staff access to the intended administration sections;
- test permitted and restricted operations;
- confirm that customers can access only their own protected records.
